How much does it cost to rent a car in Vienna?

It depends on the season, car class and rental length — longer rentals are cheaper per day. The form shows the total price with insurance once you pick dates.

Do I need an International Driving Permit to rent a car in Vienna?

EU/EEA licence: An EU/EEA licence is fully valid in Austria, just like at home. UK licence: A UK licence is valid on its own in Austria — no IDP needed. US licence: You need an International Driving Permit together with your US licence. A non-EEA licence not in German is only valid together with an IDP or a German translation.

Where do I get an International Driving Permit?

Get it at home before the trip: in the UK at PayPoint shops, in the US through AAA, in EU countries from the licensing authority or national automobile club. It is a translation of your licence and is valid only together with it.

What are the speed limits in Austria?

Typically 50 km/h in towns, 100 km/h outside towns and 130 km/h on motorways. Some sections have lower limits (e.g. 100 km/h at night / IG-L air-quality zones). Always follow the signs — cameras are common and fines reach you via the rental company.

Are there toll roads or vignettes in Austria?

A vignette (sticker or digital) is required on motorways and expressways, plus separate tolls on some tunnels and passes (e.g. Brenner, Tauern). Austrian rental cars come with the vignette; cars rented abroad usually do not.

What is the drink-driving limit?

The limit is 0.5 ‰ blood alcohol (0.1 for probationary drivers (first 2 years) and professional drivers). The safest rule is not to drink at all before driving.
