See cars in GeorgiaGeorgia is one of the best destinations for combining guided tours with independent road trips. From Tbilisi you can reach Kazbegi via the Georgian Military Road in a day, Mtskheta in half an hour, and the Kakheti wine region in an hour and a half.
If you prefer not to drive in the mountains, book a tour — guides drive their own cars and know the best viewpoints. Flat routes and the coast are easy to explore on your own.
The best time is May–June and September–October. The sea in Batumi is warm from June to September; Kazbegi and mountain roads are open from May to October.

Cards work well in Tbilisi and Batumi; carry Georgian lari in cash for villages, markets and mountain areas. Dollars and euros are easy to exchange.
Magti, Silknet and Cellfie SIMs are sold at the airport with a passport, and data is cheap. Magti has the best coverage in the mountains.
Driving is on the right. 60 km/h in towns, 80–90 outside, up to 110 on highways. Local driving is assertive, especially when overtaking. The Military Road and Cross Pass close during heavy snow — check before you go. The alcohol limit is very low: don’t drink and drive, even after a tasting.
