A UK licence is legally valid, but rental desks or police may ask for an International Driving Permit — get one before you go.
A US licence is legally valid, but rental desks or police may ask for an International Driving Permit — get one before you go.
Licences from an approved list of countries can be used for up to 7 days after arrival; otherwise an IDP is needed (valid up to 6 months). Russia/CIS are not believed to be on the approved list — check with the Traffic Department.

Tip: Radar cameras are everywhere and fines are high; desert dune driving should be done only with a guide, not in a rental car.
